Troops in Iraq to receive gift of laughter for the holidays

Baltimore County Savings Bank collects movies for soldiers during Turkey Bowl

BALTIMORE – American troops serving in Iraq will receive the gift of laughter for the holidays thanks to the comedy DVD donations Baltimore County Savings Bank collected at the Calvert Hall versus Loyola Turkey Bowl football game on Thanksgiving morning.

As the long-time sponsor of the traditional high school match-up, Baltimore County Savings Bank responded to the entertainment need for 500 soldiers serving in isolated camps of Camp Warhorse, Camp Ramadi and Camp Kirkuk in Iraq. With little interaction outside of their camp or duties and no scheduled USO Christmas shows or parties, Baltimore County Savings Bank hopes the DVDs will provide a much-needed, although momentary reprieve from daily life in the line of duty.

“In celebrating something as American as Thanksgiving Day football, it’s only fitting that we remember the soldiers who sacrifice the comforts of home to defend our country,” says Joseph Bouffard, president and CEO of Baltimore County Savings Bank. “I’m glad Baltimore responded to the call to support our troops this holiday season.”

Baltimore County Savings Bank’s DVD collection at the Turkey Bowl supplements the ongoing efforts of the Chesapeake Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC). The ASMC chapter, based out of Aberdeen Proving Ground, requests new, comedy DVDs, R-rated or lower. To make additional contributions or assist in wrapping and shipping of the gifts, contact Connie Lucas at 410-436-5268 or connie.mae.lucas@us.army.mil before December 1, 2006.
